Santa Ana.

Nancy and I drove from San Salvador at noon and we had to take a huge detour because there had been three different accidents on the main road to Santa Ana.
I had been on antibiothics for some days because of a bacteria in my body caused by the humid weather. In my situation I was happy to have Nancy as my guarden angel.

Santa Ana is half the size of San Salvador, not so polluted but still very varm. The city is located on a meseta about 650 meters above sea level.

I stayed at Casa Verde, a quiet hostel, in walking distance to the center of town.

View from the balcony of my hostel.

The Cathedral of Santa Ana had cowered the saints in purple sheets so the congregation easier could focuse on the passion of Christ.

There are a number of different prosessions in town before and during Easter.

In the rebellion of 1980 , the priest Oscar Romero , was assassinated by the Contras, because he fought for the opressed in El Salvador. Today his pictures hang in many of the churches in Central America in memory of the good priest who sacrificed himselves for the people.

The theatre in Santa Ana is more than 100 years old.

I visited Tazumal, The Maya temple, 50 minutes busride from Santa Ana.

On the way back I unfortunately jumped on the wrong bus and ended up in the middle of nowhere. To make a long story short, I managed in the end to find my way back thanks to the nice people I met on the road.
