Machu Pichu

To get to Machu Pichu I had to take a local bus to Ollantaytambo. This is a tiny and beautiful little town. From here I took the very expensive train to Aguas Calientes.

The Peru Rail to the town of Aguas Calientes, below Machu Picchu. This is the second hightest railroad in the world after Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

I spent one night in rainy Aquas Calientes before I took the early morning bus to Machu Pichu.

Hiram Bingham was an American researcher and politician. Im 1911 he visited Peru and the locals told him about the ruins between Machu Picchu (old mountain) and Huayna Picchu (young mountain). Then Bingham told the world of his “discovery,” and became famous.

Machu Picchu is not really the name for this old city - that name is lost forever.

This is a Vicuna. In Peru he is protected by the law.  This one was not very eager to be taken picture of....

Finally I met the Llamas
